Iran, Syria Set to Increase Weekly Flights

On Sunday, Muhammad Mohammadi Bakhsh, the head of the Iranian Civil Aviation Authority, announced increasing the number of flights between his country and Syria, starting from June 5 this year.

IRNA reported, on Sunday evening, that the issue of developing transport relations between Iran and Syria was discussed in the recent visits of Iranian officials to Syria, at a time when the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Mehrdad Bazrpash, announced an increase in flights between Tehran and Damascus within the framework of the transportation understandings. announced during his last trip.

Bakhsh confirmed that it was agreed during Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's recent visit to Damascus to transport 50,000 passengers annually between Iran and Syria by the Iranian air fleet.

The Iranian minister stressed that issues and axes of transport in the airspace were represented in cooperation and increasing flights between the two countries in the field of passengers and goods, especially visitors to the holy shrines in Syria to achieve the transporting 50,000 passengers annually, by conducting regular and planned flights.

Bakhsh indicated that the provision of the necessary infrastructure and the identification of the airlines of the two parties to operate the flights were discussed.

He noted that views on the number of daily flights and their weekly and annual schedule were discussed and exchanged, as well as the place of conducting those flights from different Iranian cities and opposite it from the Syrian city of Damascus.

Last Thursday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, and his Iranian counterpart Raisi, signed a memorandum of understanding for the long-term comprehensive strategic cooperation between Damascus and Tehran, as well as the minutes of a meeting for cooperation in the field of railways and the field of civil aviation, in addition to a memorandum of understanding related to the field of free zones between Syria. and Iran.
