The 160-kilometre rail link will connect Rasht in Gilan province to Astara, bridging a critical gap in the INSTC network. Technical, financial, and operational details have been completed, with formal signing expected at the upcoming Transport Week forum in Moscow.

Russia’s Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev confirmed that construction and technical implementation are set to commence in April 2026. The project is expected to boost freight capacity and streamline trade across Eurasia, linking Northern Europe to the Indian Ocean through Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and Iran.

Experts emphasise that the corridor is more than an energy transit route, positioning it as a strategic logistics artery that will reduce transport times and costs for goods moving between key economic hubs.
