On Monday, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it has imposed a ban on 17 individuals and 4 entities in Britain and the European Union for supporting terrorist groups and inciting violence in Iran.

The ministry confirmed, in a statement, that “the sanctions were imposed within the framework of the relevant regulations and sanctions mechanisms related to supporting terrorism and terrorist groups, inciting and encouraging terrorist acts and violence against the Iranian people, interfering in internal affairs, provoking violence, and unrest in Iran, and spreading false information about Iran." Iran, and participating in the escalation of harsh sanctions against Iran," according to the Iranian Tasnim Agency.

The statement condemned the action taken by the EU and the UK regime to support, facilitate and prevent it from addressing the subversive actions of the aforementioned individuals and entities, which is a violation of international obligations related to combating terrorism,

It stressed that the imposition and aggravation of harsh penalties is a clear violation of the basic principles of international law stipulated in the Charter of the UN.

Earlier today, the EU and Britain announced the imposition of more sanctions on Iranian officials, including members of the Revolutionary Guards, who they said were responsible for human rights violations.

The Council of Foreign Ministers of the EU said, in a statement, that it adopted an additional package, which is the seventh, of sanctions against Iran, noting that these sanctions were taken because of what it described as violations of human rights by the Iranian authorities.
