Iran has begun a major project to secure its northeastern borders using advanced smart technology, according to Iranian military officials.
Brigadier General Kiomars Heidari, commander of the Iranian army's ground forces, confirmed on Wednesday that the project to close off sections of the border has commenced, utilizing modern national technologies.
Heidari made the announcement during an inspection of the border area between Iran and Afghanistan, specifically in the Razavi Khorasan province, which shares a long border with its eastern neighbor.
Heidari reported significant progress in the implementation of the project and expressed confidence that it would be completed within the planned timeframe.
He emphasized the importance of this strategic initiative in ensuring the security of Iran’s borders and praised the engineering teams for their ongoing efforts.
The project involves the use of smart devices and cutting-edge technology, highlighting Iran's shift from traditional border security measures, such as physical walls, to more advanced methods incorporating artificial intelligence (AI).
Earlier this month, Iranian officials also commented on the country's overall military readiness. Brigadier General Alireza Sabahifard, commander of the Iranian Air Defense Force, reaffirmed Iran's capability to counter any potential threats to its territory.
Speaking during a ceremony for air defense personnel, Sabahifard said that all air defense equipment used by the army is domestically produced and surpasses even the most advanced defense systems worldwide.
He also issued a stern warning, stating that any miscalculations by the US or Israel would be met with a "severe response" from Iran's military forces.
