In a step intended to protect migrants who are particularly vulnerable during the COVID-19, IOM Egypt in collaboration with the Egyptian Red Crescent organized an awareness-raising symposium on the awful virus for more than 90 migrants from Yemen, Sudan, and Syria residing in Alexandria.

Within the framework of the COVID-19 response, IOM conducted the seminar to help many of them acquire critical knowledge about the deadly virus and learn the mechanism of combating this global crisis as well, according to a statement released by IOM Egypt.

The project is funded by the European Union, under the “Regional Response to COVID-19 in North African Countries” program, the statement noted.

As many migrants are unable to meet their most basic needs of food, shelter, and access to healthcare and hygiene facilities– all necessary to ensure their safety, dignity, and well-being and to prevent COVID-19 transmission, IOM Egypt holds several fruitful symposiums on reducing the impact of covid-19 on the health of migrants and supporting capacity-building and providing the necessary humanitarian assistance for them.

Moreover, Egypt's Red Crescent and other NGOs bear witness to the disproportionate impacts of COVID-19 and its associated control measures on migrants, including people seeking asylum and refugees.
