The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) announced on Sunday a pledge of approximately 1 million Euros (about $1.1 million) to support the Moroccan Red Crescent's relief efforts in the wake of the devastating earthquake.

Since the powerful tremor that hit the nation on Friday night, the Moroccan Red Crescent teams have been actively providing disaster relief services, including psychosocial support and assisting in search and rescue operations.

The funds from the global organization will be utilized by Moroccan volunteers to purchase essential supplies on the ground. Caroline Holt, the Crisis Management Director of the IFRC, commented on the situation, emphasizing that "the challenges are immense." She underscored the current crucial need to quickly supply heavy rescue equipment to the remote areas impacted by the quake and to swiftly assist those with severe injuries.

In an updated report on Sunday, Morocco's Ministry of Interior revealed that the death toll from the earthquake had risen to 2,122, with 2,421 people reported injured.
