International news agencies highlighted President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's warning against escalating the situation in Lebanon, during his reception of the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Charles (CQ) Brown, in Cairo today, Sunday.
The agency quoted the Egyptian presidency's statement as saying that El-Sisi warned against the dangers of opening a new front in Lebanon, and stressed the need to preserve Lebanon's stability and sovereignty.
President El-Sisi's meeting with General Charles Brown came hours after Israel launched air strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, claiming that they were aimed at thwarting a major attack on central and northern Israel. The Lebanese group then fired 230 projectiles at northern Israel.
The French agency noted that President El-Sisi also called for a decisive stance from the international community, and a stronger response to the joint Egyptian-American-Qatari efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement and release the hostages, which would provide a path to calm and stability in the region.
Reuters also highlighted President Sisi's statements during his reception of the American general, and highlighted his statement on the necessity for the state community to exert all efforts and intensify pressure to defuse tensions and stop the state of escalation that threatens security and stability in the entire region.
