The increasing eruptions of the Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano on Indonesia's Flores Island negatively impacted the normal schedule of international air travel across South-East Asia.
Since Tuesday, several airlines and operators such as Jetstar, Virgin Australia, AirAsia, and Tigerair canceled several flights from Bali to several destinations like Australia, Singapore, and Malaysia due to safety concerns over the eruptions of the volcano.
Jetstar said on Wednesday: "Due to volcanic ash caused by Mount Lewotobi in Indonesia, it is currently not safe to operate to and from Bali." The company elaborated that it would resume its flights after the disturbance of these clouds of ash and smoke decreased.
Bali's Airpot Director General Ahmad Syaugi Shahab revealed that 34 flights were disrupted on Tuesday.
The Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano has been active once again since late 2023. Lately, it threw hot gases and ash into the atmosphere.
10 days ago, the volcano suddenly blew ash and rocks miles into the air.
The rocks fell on seven surrounding villages and caused severe damage and fires. It was reported that nine people were killed due to these incidents.
Thousands fleed their villages and moved to evacuation centers.
