Indonesia's Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is set to introduce computer programming and artificial intelligence (AI) into its curriculum at the nation's tuition-free "Sekolah Rakyat", or People's Schools. This is reported by ANTARA, according to TV BRICS.

The initiative was unveiled by Elementary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu'ti during a recent briefing in Jakarta. It aims to provide students with learning opportunities tailored to their individual talents, interests, and abilities, while adhering to the same core subject matter and educational approaches employed in formal schools.

The new curriculum, designed for flexibility and personalised learning, will "apply the principles of deep learning", implementing "mindful, meaningful, and joyful learning through activities of understanding, application, and reflection," explained Minister Mu'ti.

The introduction of coding and AI is framed as a strategic move by the government to equip students with the digital literacy and technical skills needed to navigate and contribute to a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The Ministry has affirmed that the curriculum and teaching approach will remain fully aligned with national education policy. Furthermore, the government is committed to providing the necessary resources and support to ensure the successful implementation of this ambitious initiative.
