Indonesia anticipates creating more than 6800 green jobs through its planned expansion of nuclear energy, positioning atomic power as a key component of the nation’s renewable transition, according to VNA, a TV BRICS partner.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung said the initiative will involve both small modular reactors and larger-scale facilities, each offering significant employment opportunities.

He explained that the government has aligned workforce competencies with industry requirements, updating vocational training programmes and preparing specialised institutions to equip workers with the necessary skills.

Beyond nuclear energy, Indonesia sees vast potential across other renewable sectors. Projections suggest solar power could employ over 348,000 people, hydropower around 129,000, and battery development nearly 68,000.

Officials stress that diversifying the energy mix will not only advance the country’s climate commitments but also drive sustainable economic growth.

The nuclear initiative forms part of Indonesia’s long-term strategy to cut reliance on fossil fuels, boost clean energy capacity, and foster a skilled green workforce for the future.
