Natural Resources Conservation Agency in West Sumatra, Indonesia, rushed to evacuate climbers from Mount Marapi after a volcanic eruption was recorded Saturday morning.
Indonesia's Antara Agency said the evacuation was based on information received from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation, said Ardi Andono, head of the Resource Conservation Agency.
Andono stated that there were 40 climbers on Mount Marapi when it erupted on Saturday morning.
The agency had closed the hiking trail at the end of 2022 until January 2, 2023, and after today's eruption, the agency again closed the hiking trail.
