Indirect talks between Iran and the United States are scheduled to take place this Friday in Muscat, the capital of Oman, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
The scope of the upcoming negotiations will be strictly limited to the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the U.S. President’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, are expected to attend the talks, the agency reported.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei stated that Tehran is carefully reviewing the framework for potential negotiations with Washington, with a primary focus on lifting sanctions and advancing national interests.
Regarding the objectives of the talks, Baghaei emphasized that sanctions relief is a top priority. He noted that Foreign Minister Araghchi recently remarked that the nuclear issue has long been used as a "pretext" to impose conflict on Iran.
Baghaei added that in exchange for confidence-building measures regarding the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, Iran’s primary demand remains the removal of "unjust sanctions."
