India has made a financial contribution of $2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) as part of its annual contribution of $5 million for the year 2023/2024.

This contribution is aimed at supporting the agency's core programs and services, including education, healthcare, relief, and social services provided to Palestinian refugees.

On November 20, 2023, the Indian Ambassador to Palestine, Reenat Sandhu, handed over the contribution to Karim Amer, Director of Partnerships at UNRWA's Department of External Relations.

This contribution underscores the continued support of the Indian government for UNRWA's activities in the region and the services it provides to Palestinian refugees. India had increased its annual contribution to UNRWA from $1.25 million to $5 million in 2018.

From 2002 to 2022/2023, India's total contributions to UNRWA amounted to $36.5 million. Additionally, India provides various forms of economic assistance to Palestine, totaling approximately $141.2 million.

This includes developmental assistance of $70.6 million and budget support to the Palestinian Authority amounting to $39 million.

Among the significant development assistance projects undertaken by India are the Technology Park, three schools, a women's empowerment center, a national printing press, two information and communications technology centers, two vocational training centers, and several high-impact projects.

Furthermore, India has delivered 70 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza, which was handed over to the Egyptian Red Crescent at El-Arish Airport in two shipments, the first on October 22 and the second on November 19, 2023.

India's contributions aim to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian refugees and support the development and well-being of the Palestinian people.
