Hussein Ibrahim Taha Elected New OIC Secretary-General

Media outlets reported on Saturday the election of Chadian Hussein Ibrahim Taha as Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) after the end of Yousef Al-Othaimeen's mandate.

The Chadian diplomat was unanimously elected OIC Secretary-General the organization`s 57th session.

This came at the conclusion of the meeting of the OIC foreign ministers in Niamey, Niger, with the participation of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.

The Saudi minister said that the Kingdom supported Taha's candidacy for the OIC secretariat.

Earlier, OIC condemned "anti-Islam rhetoric", expressing its refusal to link terrorism with Islam. It affirmed that freedom of expression does not mean defaming or prejudicing religious symbols.
