Huge Efforts Exerted to Save Egyptian Eng. Sentenced to Death in KSA

The Ministry of Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs issued a statement on Saturday clarifying the huge efforts being exerted to save Egyptian eng. Ali Abu Elkassem, who has been sentenced to death by a Saudi court on charges of drug trafficking.

The statement added that it communicated with the Egyptian Embassy and Consulate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to know the circumstances of the case and closely follow up on what will happen in the coming period.

This came after a large-scale outcry of Egyptians who have demanded the Saudi authorities to launch re-investigation into the case to prove the innocence of the Egyptian engineer.

The Immigration Ministry revealed that, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there will be further communication between the Egyptian Ministry of Justice and the International Cooperation Bureau to send a request to the Saudi authorities to re-launch investigations, especially in light of Arab judicial cooperation agreements allow for the exchange of information in lawsuits.

The Ministry also communicated with the Attorney General to support the completion of sending all papers to Saudi courts in order to prove the innocence of the Egyptian engineer Ali Abu Elkassem

The ministry issued several statements, over the past year and a half, praising the bilateral relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia,

It also called on the Saudi authorities to release a royal pardon to Abu Elkassem in response to family distress due to unclear circumstances of the case,

The statement also affirmed their permanent respect for the Saudi judiciary.

On the other hand, Social media users launched Hashtag #Save_Engineer_Ali_Abu_Elkassem who topped Twitter trends, appealing President El-Sisi to quickly intervene to stop the death sentence against the Egyptian engineer.

Ali has been working in Saudi Arabia since 2007 and was sentenced to death in 2017 on charges of smuggling and promoting drugs to Saudi Arabia.
