The Suez Canal tunnel construction scheme is the largest tunnel project in the history of Egypt and the Middle East.

It was developed by Egyptian workers and was executed in record time. It is the biggest project in the Middle East in terms of lengths, diameters, and volume of work.

This project highlighted the Egyptians’ ability to defeat the challenge and establish five tunnels in half the term in only six years.

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi ordered to start implementation of the Suez Canal tunnels project in July 2016.

A total of 3,000 Egyptian workers and engineers joined forced to complete the construction of the tunnels in just three years.

In 2014, the Suez Canal Authority submitted a plan to develop the Suez Canal axis, which included building a new canal parallel to the old Suez Canal to facilitate navigation across the canal.

The plan also included the establishment of a technology valley that is linked to Ismailia, East Bridge, and West Bridge.

Furthermore, the authority intended to build a number of floating bridges to enlarge the country's income from hard currency as well as boost the canal’s capacity to handle 97 ships by 2023 and reduce the cost of the navigational voyage.
