Harris, WTO director general discuss organization’s reform

US Vice President Kamala Harris has discussed the possible means to reform the World Trade Organization with its Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Thursday.

Through their phone conversation, both touched upon various issues such as human rights, technology, investments in field of climate, and the means of world economic growth in the light of COVID-19 pandemic.

She tweeted, "We agreed to advancing international trade for recovery and equitable economic growth. We discussed human rights, investing in the environment, health...”

Moreover, Harris offered the Director General support and appreciation as the whole international community is working together to achieve economic recovery.

Both sides are committed to work together for competing the economic and health impacts of the Coronavirus, in addition to and climate change.

The White House said in an official statement: "The Vice President and the director general agreed on the importance of using trade to promote equity and economic growth. They discussed how improved living standards, labour rights, human rights, and the well-being of working families must be at the center of our shared priorities to use trade as a lever to lift communities out of poverty.”
