Handball: Pharaohs Return Home with World Championship Trophy

Egypt's U-19 handball national team have landed in Egypt on Tuesday after they claimed Men’s Youth World Championship title with a four-goal win over Germany for the first time in history.

Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, and Hesham Nasr, president of the Egyptian Handball Federation received the national team at Cairo International Airport.

The African Champions qualified for the final after defeating Portugal 41-36 on Saturday, whereas Germany advanced to this stage after pulling-off a 31-23 victory over Denmark in the semi-finals.

The Pharaohs delivered an impressive performance during the tournament as they pulled off four victories over Sweden, Chinese Taipei, Canada, and Hungary in the group stage. Whereas they suffered only one defeat by the defending champions France in their second game at the tournament.

The African Champions made an ideal start to the tournament by defeating Sweden 32-29, before suffering a 28-24 defeat by holders France in the second game.

Egypt crushed Chinese Taipei in their third game with a 36-25 score on Friday. They defeated their rivals Canada with a 47-20 score in the fourth game of the group stage.

Egypt demolished their opponents Hungary with a 31-24 score in the last game of the group stage.

The Pharaohs demolished Slovenia 30-23 in the last 16, before defeating Iceland 35-31 in the quarter-finals to reach the last 4.

They booked their place in the international tournament after claiming the African Championship title, held in Morocco, where they defeated Tunisia in the final game.
