The Palestinian group Hamas announced on Friday its approval of a prisoner exchange deal outlined in the proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this week, saying it is prepared to release all Israeli captives held in Gaza, both alive and deceased, under the plan’s framework.

In an official statement, Hamas said the decision came “out of national responsibility and in the interest of ending the aggression and genocide” against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

The movement added that it had conducted extensive consultations within its leadership, with other Palestinian factions, and with Arab and international mediators before reaching its decision.

The statement affirmed Hamas’s appreciation for “Arab, Islamic, and international efforts, as well as those of President Donald Trump,” aimed at ending the war on Gaza, ensuring the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid, and preventing the occupation or forced displacement of Palestinians from the enclave.

Hamas confirmed it had officially conveyed its response to mediators, expressing readiness to enter immediate negotiations through intermediaries to finalize the details of the exchange.

The group reiterated its commitment to the proposed formula: the release of all Israeli detainees “alive and deceased” in return for a comprehensive ceasefire and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, as stipulated in Trump’s plan.

In a significant political overture, Hamas also renewed its consent to hand over the administration of Gaza to a Palestinian technocratic authority composed of independent figures, based on national consensus and supported by Arab and Islamic states.

The movement emphasized that any future discussions on Gaza’s governance and the broader political issues concerning Palestinian rights must occur within a unified national framework, in accordance with international law and U.N. resolutions.

The announcement marks the first official acceptance by Hamas of a U.S.-brokered framework since the escalation of the current conflict, signaling a potential turning point if Israel and the United States respond positively.
