United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and Qatari officials have inaugurated the UN House in Doha as a high-level UN diplomatic center in the region.
In his address at the opening ceremony, the UN Chief said: "The United Nations House stands as a symbol of our collective efforts to work towards a more peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world for all."
Guterres pointed out that Doha has become an important center for diplomacy that facilitates some of the most complex conflicts in the world, as Qatar has provided crucial support to dialogue through diplomacy and generous humanitarian assistance.
"I have no doubt that the new United Nations House in Qatar will develop into a hub for UN activities in the region," he noted.
In turn, the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani indicated that the opening of the United Nations House in Doha is an expression of the depth of the strategic partnership of consultation, cooperation and coordination between the United Nations and the State of Qatar.
Also in this regard, he affirmed that this major event is the culmination of half a century of partnership and dynamic relations between Qatar and the United Nations, interspersed with many stations and joint work to build peace, development and face global challenges.
