A second Greek-owned oil tanker successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz despite heightened regional tensions, highlighting the ongoing challenges facing global shipping in the region.

The vessel, named “The Smyrni”, is operated by Dynacom Tankers Management. It transmitted its position off Mumbai early Saturday, after last reporting inside the Arabian Gulf on Tuesday. The gap in tracking data suggests the ship likely turned off its transponder while traversing the high-risk waters.

This successful passage follows a previous transit by another Dynacom tanker, “Shenlong”, earlier this month. Most maritime traffic through the Strait has effectively halted since February 28, following the outbreak of hostilities and repeated attacks by Iran on ships and energy infrastructure in the region.

Traders and analysts are closely monitoring tanker movements, as the Strait of Hormuz handles roughly 20% of the world’s seaborne oil trade. The near shutdown of traffic has created storage bottlenecks, prompting producers to curtail output temporarily.

Dynacom Tankers Management has not provided a public comment on the voyage. Despite ongoing Iranian attacks targeting vessels and energy installations in neighboring countries, “The Smyrni” represents one of the few vessels to transit the chokepoint safely in recent weeks, underscoring both the risks and the operational determination of shipping companies navigating this volatile corridor.

The passage demonstrates the continued resilience of private shipping firms, but also highlights the fragility of global oil logistics in a region facing sustained geopolitical escalation.
