Greece Calls UN to Intensify Efforts to Solve Cyprus Issue

On Thursday, Greece calls the UN Secretary-General to intensify efforts to resolve the issue of the Cyprus island within the framework of the UN Security Council decisions, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias said.

These statements came after his meeting with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN on Thursday. 

After the meeting, he announced the Greek candidacy for the election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2025/26 term.

Dendias said that new initiative for Cyprus island was discussed with the UN chief a broader set of issues, following Nikos Christodoulides’ election as President of the Republic of Cyprus.

He added that they discussed the war in Ukraine and the latest developments of the Eastern Mediterranean.

Some issues related to environmental protection and women's rights.
