Sony Pictures has unveiled the official poster and first look at "Gran Turismo", the highly anticipated sports racing movie based on the popular video game series of the same name.
While the movie itself is based on the game, the high-octane adventure also depicts the true story of Jann Mardenborough whose gaming skills won a series of Nissan competitions.
He trained to become a pro race car driver after winning a Sony-sponsored competition pitting the best Gran Turismo players against each other.
"Gran Turismo" stars David Harbour as Mardenborough's trainer, Jack Salter, and Orlando Bloom as a sports marketing executive.
Archie Madekwe, best known for his role in A24's "Midsommar", will lead the movie alongside an ensemble cast that includes Harbour, Bloom, Djimon Hounsou, Thomas Kretschmann, and Darren Barnett.
Sony, which is no stranger to video game adaptations, had a Gran Turismo movie in the works as far back as 2013, but it never panned out.
In May 2022, it was announced that a new version of the movie was in development, with Sony tapping "District 9" director Neill Blomkamp to helm the project. Things began to heat up after that, with Madekwe, Harbour, and Bloom all boarding in September. Filming wrapped in December.
Blomkamp directed the pic from a screenplay by Jason Hall and Zach Baylin. The movie is produced by Doug Begrad for 2.0 Entertainment, Dana Brunetti for Trigger Street Productions, and Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan for PlayStation Productions.
"Gran Turismo" hits theaters on August 11.
