Google celebrated its 21st birthday with a throwback picture of a bulky computer. The system monitor featured Google's search screen and showcases a timestamp dated to September 27, 1998.

The tech giant, which is now one of the biggest companies in the world, began as a project by two computer graduate students Larry Page and Sergey Brin in their dorm room. Today, search engine operates all over the world and in over 100 languages, answering trillions of search queries each year.

In 2001, it released products like Google Docs, Gmail, Drive and one of the most-popular web browsers named Google Chrome.

In the coming years, search engine acquired video streaming platform YouTube and forayed in the smartphone (Pixel), smart speaker (Google Home) and mobile computer hardware sectors.

On other hand, in 2004, with a push from Friendster, Mark Zuckerberg and company gave the world Facebook, Google’s largest competitor for internet domination. Gmail, which become the world’s largest email provider, was also founded in 2004.

The following year, Google bought up mobile developers Android Inc., and released their Maps feature – a game-changer for the GPS market.

Meanwhile, Google employ over 60,000 in 50 countries, it makes and contributes to hundreds of products that are used by billions globally.

Noteworthy, in the two decades since Google entered the scene, technology has seen exponential evolution and advancement. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect is, not only how much the Internet has changed, but also how it has changed the world around us.
