In light of the continuing protests in Iraq against the burning of the Quran in Sweden and Denmark, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has canceled a scheduled visit to Baghdad on Sunday, citing security concerns.

According to reports from "Sputnik" agency, a German newspaper stated, "The trip of Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to Iraq was canceled at the last minute on Sunday for security reasons."

The decision was reportedly made following a recommendation from the Federal Criminal Police Office, in response to the riots that took place outside the Swedish embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, and the attacks on a Danish organization in Basra province. Berlin has not ruled out the possibility of the disturbances spreading to other Western missions.

The German military is currently participating in a training mission for the NATO alliance, aimed at preparing the Iraqi armed forces to combat terrorist groups.

It's worth noting that members of the extremist Danish group "Patriots" burned a copy of the Quran in front of the Iraqi embassy in Copenhagen on Friday and desecrated the Iraqi national flag. The incident was then broadcast on social media networks.

The desecration and burning of the Quran in Stockholm sparked widespread condemnation around the world, with Iraq calling on the Swedish authorities to hand over the immigrant responsible for the incident.
