Germany has called on Israel to immediately cease blocking humanitarian aid from entering Gaza, as ceasefire negotiations remain at an impasse.

German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sebastian Fischer emphasized in a press conference that humanitarian assistance must be allowed into Gaza without obstacles at all times.

He stressed that using aid access as a bargaining tool during negotiations is unacceptable.

Germany, a strong ally of Israel, also urged Hamas to release all hostages still in captivity.

Israel's decision to block aid shipments on Sunday came amid negotiations over extending the ceasefire following the initial 42-day truce.

The Israeli government backed a proposal from US Middle East envoy Steve Whitkoff to prolong the ceasefire until mid-April.

However, Hamas has repeatedly rejected extensions, insisting on transitioning to the second phase of the truce agreement, which aims to end the war.

Fischer urged both sides to return to the negotiation table to sustain the ceasefire, facilitate the release of more hostages, and improve humanitarian conditions for Gaza’s residents.

He further emphasized that these efforts are crucial not only for immediate relief but also for the long-term reconstruction of Gaza and achieving lasting peace in the region.
