German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock revealed on Monday that her country intends to provide Ukraine with an additional €20 million in humanitarian aid.
During her visit to the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, Baerbock stated that Ukraine can "rely on us and our understanding of expanding the European Union as a necessary geopolitical result of the Russian war," according to a statement reported by Reuters.
Furthermore, the foreign minister added that Ukraine already enjoys candidate status and "now we are preparing for a decision on opening accession talks with the European Union."
On another note, Ukraine announced on Monday that its forces have regained more territory on both the eastern and southern fronts as part of their counteroffensive against Russian forces.
Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Maliar reported that Ukrainian forces reclaimed approximately two square kilometers of land around the city of Bakhmut, which had been captured by Russian forces in May after months of fierce fighting.
Maliar also noted that Ukrainian forces achieved "partial success" near the village of Obytne in the south of the city of Avdiivka in the Donetsk region in the east of the country.
"There were movements near Obytne, and the defense forces (of Ukraine) took control of a part of this small village," Maliar stated.
She also pointed out that Ukrainian forces had liberated 49 square kilometers near Bakhmut since the start of their counteroffensive three months ago.
