Germany's Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has announced an additional German military aid package for Ukraine worth €500 million, including 10,000 artillery shells from the stocks of the German army.

The minister, speaking at a meeting of the contact group on Ukraine at the Ramstein Air Base in Germany, was quoted by "Die Welt" newspaper as saying, "We have allocated a €500 million aid package for Ukraine."

Germany also intends to cover the purchase of 180,000 shells as part of the Czech initiative and will request another 100,000 shells for Kyiv from its own companies.

With a total of €7 billion in German aid to Ukraine for 2024, Berlin becomes the largest supplier to Kyiv.

Pistorius reiterated that there are currently no plans to send German forces to Ukraine.

Peter Stano, spokesman for the European Union's Foreign Policy Commission, announced that the EU is set to provide Ukraine with 500,000 shells by the end of March as part of a plan to deliver one million shells.
