Office of Germany's President announced today, Saturday, that President Frank-Walter Steinmeier entered into quarantine after an employee of the presidential guard was infected with the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

This comes as Germany is witnessing a significant surge in the number of Coronavirus infections with the deadly virus.

However, Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel said that her government will do everything to ensure that the Coronavirus (COVID-19) does not spread out of control, warning that Germany is "in a very dangerous stage of the pandemic, since this week".

Merkel added - in her weekly video- that the number of new infections is increasing at breakneck speed "throughout the day, day and night.", stressing that the pandemic is spreading again so quickly that the rate exceeded its beginnings more than six months ago.

The German chancellor went on to say that relatively comfortable summer is over now, but difficult months are to come. She called on citizens to be careful and to meet less, and to maintain a minimum distance while making sure to wear a mouth and nose shield that complies with the rules of hygiene.

She also demanded to refrain people from traveling and moving except when absolutely necessary, indicating that she knows that restrictions linked to COVID-19 sound harsh, "but we have to commit to them temporarily to protect the lives of the citizens."

"Our health care system continues for our children's schools and daycare centers to remain open, for our economy and our jobs," she told people.

On the other hand, the data of the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases in Germany showed, today, Saturday, that the number of new confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the country increased by 7,830 to 348,557 in total.

The census showed that 33 new deaths were recorded, bringing the total number to 9734 cases.
