According to reports from Bloomberg, sources with inside knowledge revealed that Germany's coalition government under Chancellor Olaf Scholz has agreed to double Germany's military aid to Ukraine next year to €8 billion (approximately $8.54 billion).
The report states that if the German parliament, where Scholz's government enjoys a majority, approves this increase, it will raise Germany's defense spending to exceed the two percent of GDP target pledged by all NATO members.
Bloomberg also noted that lawmakers from the Social Democratic Party, the Free Democratic Party, and the Greens have agreed to intensify negotiations on the proposed federal budget for 2024 this week.
The German Ministry of Defense has not yet commented on this development.
It's worth mentioning that some European Union member states have opposed the bloc's plan to allocate up to €20 billion (about $21.4 billion) for military aid to Ukraine.
