German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has reiterated that Germany will not entertain the possibility of returning to nuclear power, emphasizing that the "atomic age" is over in the country.

Scholz dismissed a proposal from a coalition partner to keep the option of utilizing closed nuclear power stations open, firmly standing by the decision to shut down the country's last three reactors in April.

While there have been calls to reconsider this decision due to rising energy prices amid the Ukraine conflict, Scholz remains resolute. Members of the Free Democrats Party, part of the ruling coalition, have advocated for halting the dismantling of operational nuclear power stations to prepare for worst-case scenarios.

However, in an interview with Deutsche Welle radio, Scholz rejected this proposal, stating that nuclear energy is no longer a viable option for Germany. He emphasized the lengthy and costly process of building new nuclear power stations, making it impractical compared to developing renewable sources.

Scholz emphasized the importance of expanding the utilization of renewable energy, such as wind and solar power, to meet the future needs of Germany, the largest economy in Europe. He stated that the country has already begun the dismantling process, and any discussion of resuming nuclear energy implies the construction of new power stations, which is not in line with Germany's current energy goals.
