German Interior Minister Nancy Weser announced today, Friday, that her country will send three planes carrying tents and other relief supplies for the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck southern Turkey last Monday.

Weser said - during a joint press conference with German Defense Minister "Boris Pistorius" at Vonstorf Air Base, which was reported by the Turkish "A News" TV - that "this is a natural disaster of incredible proportions. We have been deeply affected. We stand by Turkey." Three military cargo planes will take off from the military base today, loaded with 40 tons of relief supplies, organized by the Federal Authority for Technical Support and the Federal Agency for Technical Relief.

For his part, Pistorius stressed that the German Air Force will continue these flights as long as necessary, saying, "This is a terrible natural disaster so we, as German military forces and their personnel, our thoughts are with the victims and their relatives who are now in mourning, and who must deal with this situation."

He added: "it's hard, it's horrible, it's hard to deal with."
