The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) has partnered with The American University in Cairo’s (AUC) School of Continuing Education (SCE) to launch a specialized training program for aspiring tour guides and cultural photographers. This collaboration aims to enhance tour guiding expertise and visual storytelling skills, equipping participants with both historical knowledge and technical proficiency to meet the evolving demands of Egypt’s tourism sector.
As part of the initiative, GEM and AUC will introduce a Professional Certificate for Tour Guides, offering trainees a comprehensive curriculum, immersive on-site training, and expert-led practical sessions at the Grand Egyptian Museum. The program is designed to bridge knowledge gaps in the industry, ensuring participants gain deep insights into Egypt’s cultural and historical heritage while refining their skills in narrative engagement and visitor experience.
“Developing this certificate program has been an incredibly enriching process, involving months of collaboration with subject matter experts from GEM,” said Amira El-Deeb, Director of the Career Development Department at SCE. “We conducted extensive research on professional tour guiding standards, identifying market needs and performance gaps. This allowed us to create a curriculum that not only covers essential guiding skills but also immerses participants in real-world experiences.”
To complement the tour guiding certification, the program also includes a Mobile Photography Workshop, designed to equip participants with essential photography techniques for capturing Egypt’s rich history. This hands-on training focuses on documenting architectural wonders, museum exhibits, and cultural landmarks, ensuring that aspiring photographers develop strong visual storytelling abilities.
