The Gaza Municipality has issued a dire warning about the deteriorating conditions faced by displaced residents in the region due to the recent wave of heavy rain and storms.
The severe weather has exacerbated the already fragile living conditions of thousands of families who were forced to flee their homes during recent conflicts.
Municipal officials reported that makeshift shelters and temporary accommodations are ill-equipped to withstand the harsh winter conditions. Many displaced individuals are living in tents or unfinished buildings, leaving them vulnerable to flooding, strong winds, and plummeting temperatures.
"The displaced are enduring catastrophic circumstances," a municipality spokesperson stated. "The combination of heavy rainfall and inadequate infrastructure has led to significant flooding, worsening the humanitarian crisis."
Local aid organizations have called for urgent intervention, emphasizing the need for immediate relief supplies, including warm clothing, blankets, and food.
They also stressed the importance of addressing long-term housing solutions to prevent further suffering.
One displaced resident described their plight: "The rain has turned our shelter into a swamp. We have no electricity, no heating, and our children are falling sick. We feel abandoned."
The municipality has appealed to international organizations and neighboring countries to provide assistance, highlighting the critical need for support to prevent further loss of life.
As the storms continue, the situation remains dire, with calls for global solidarity growing louder to alleviate the suffering of Gaza’s displaced population.
