The Group of Seven most developed nations (G7) are prepared to have a serious dialogue with Russia on the Ukraine crisis, German Foreign Minister revealed on Friday.
On the eve of crunch talks in Munich with her G7 counterparts, Annalena Baerbock said: “We will use Munich to send out a message of unity: we are ready for a serious dialogue on security for all.”
Media outlets affirmed that Russia is not scheduled to attend the annual Munich Security Conference, which opens Friday and runs until Sunday.
The White House said that U.S. President Joe Biden would speak with transatlantic leaders on Friday about Russia’s troop buildup on the border of Ukraine.
On his part, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky asserted that his country had “no need” for foreign allied forces to face down a feared Russian invasion.
“We have no need for soldiers with foreign flags on our territory. We are not asking for that. Otherwise, the entire world would be destabilised,” Zelensky told the RBK Ukraine website.
“We do not want to give any additional reason for Russia to say we have (foreign) bases here that they need to ‘defend’ themselves against,” he said.
