On Saturday, G7 leaders expressed that they seek to keep the door open for China to cooperate and inflame tensions.
They said in the final communique issued at the summit: "We stand prepared to build constructive and stable relations with China, recognizing the importance of engaging candidly with and expressing our concerns directly to China."
It added: "Our policy approaches are not designed to harm China nor do we seek to thwart China's economic progress and development."
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida received the leaders participating in the summit of the Group of Seven industrialized countries (G7), Friday, in the city of Hiroshima.
