France's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Wednesday that Paris will host an international conference on October 24 to support the Lebanese people and their institutions.
The initiative, spearheaded by French President Emmanuel Macron, follows a recent tour of the Middle East by Jean-Noël Barrot, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
The conference aims to gather Lebanon's international partners, including the United Nations, the European Union, international and regional organizations, and civil society groups.
The main objective of the conference is to mobilize global efforts to address Lebanon's urgent humanitarian needs and explore ways to support key Lebanese institutions, particularly the Lebanese Armed Forces, which play a vital role in maintaining internal stability.
As Lebanon grapples with a severe political and humanitarian crisis, France is using this platform to underscore the urgent need for an end to hostilities and to find a diplomatic solution in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
This resolution calls for a ceasefire and urges the safe return of displaced persons, both in Lebanon and Israel, to their homes.
In its statement, the French Foreign Ministry also emphasized the importance of electing a president in Lebanon as a crucial first step toward restoring the country’s political institutions, reaffirming France’s commitment to supporting these efforts.
