French President Emmanuel Macron has pledged to invest $150 million in the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to fight poverty and address climate change in rural areas.
During a video message broadcast at a charity event organized by the non-profit Global Citizen in New York, Macron announced that France had decided to host and organize the replenishment of the Fund's resources and issued a call for contributions.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development is a United Nations fund, headquartered in Rome, dedicated to addressing poverty and hunger in rural areas in developing countries.
Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, French Minister of State for Development, Francophonie and International Partnerships, revealed that France has allocated 40 million euros (about 43 million dollars) to the United Nations Global Fund for Education in Emergencies and Protracted Crises (Education Cannot Wait) for education.
