Huge fire broke out on the island of Reunion, France, from the night of Sunday to Monday, leaving five people dead.

The fire occurred in an apartment in the « Marina » building, located rue de la Vierge in the Montgaillard district, in Saint-Denis, according to the La 1 channel.

Meantime, the identity of victims has not been determined," according to the prefect of Reunion, Jacques Billant, and the prosecutor of Saint-Denis, Véronique Denizot. They added that two other victims are in a critical situation.

The fire broke out around 1:15 a.m. (10:15 p.m. in metropolitan France) in one of the apartments of the building belonging to the real estate company of the department of Reunion (SIDR), a social landlord noted.

In August, a wildfire in Southern France regions caused a massive cloud of smoke and ash that, combined with the dry heat, generated its own lightning and created dangerous weather conditions for fireworks, French authorities reported.

At least three people have been killed, while thousands of people have fled the fires near the tourist beaches of St. Tropez, according to domestic reports.
