The French Ministry of Housing announced the evacuation of 179 people from their homes in the vicinity of the apartment building that collapsed Saturday night in the "La Plaine" area in central Marseille (southern France). The ministry confirmed that this number could be increased.
Mayor of Marseille had confirmed the evacuation of 32 buildings in the vicinity of the collapsed building in addition to the transfer of 163 people in care places.
He also stressed the need to be careful about the causes of the building's collapse and to "wait for the results of the judicial police on the incident".
On the other hand, French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his deep sorrow over the injured ones as a result of the collapse of a four-storey residential building in the city of Marseille (southern France).
Macron said - on Twitter - "I feel very sad, and I share the pain of the injured and their families in Marseille, where a building collapsed last night."
He added that the search operation is continuing to search for other victims, expressing his thanks to the firefighters and paramedics who immediately arrived at the scene.
At least five people were injured as a result of the collapse of a four-storey building in the city of Marseille, but a fire erupted, which hindered rescuers from searching for other possible victims.
