Health Commissioner of Indian Andhra Pradesh State, Pradesh Katamaneni Bhaskar said on Friday that 1,148 people arrived at the state from the United Kingdom (UK)  in the last one month and 1,040 of them have been traced so far.

He pointed out in a  press release that 18 of them were from other states and 16 had invalid addresses, while efforts were on to trace the remaining 88.

Four out of over 1,000 people who returned from the UK to Andhra Pradesh in the past one month have tested positive for COVID-19. Their samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, and Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, to determine if they carried the new coronavirus strain.

Bhaskar said 982 of the UK returnees have been placed under quarantine.

"It will take at least three days to get the result of the four positive samples sent to NIV and CCMB for analysis. But there is no need to panic," Bhaskar added.

The Commissioner said a trial run of COVID-19 vaccination would be conducted at five locations in Krishna district on December 28 in accordance with the Centers directive.

The trial run primarily was for testing whether the web-based software was working properly or not, he said.

As COVID-19 winds its way through India, hospitals continue to be flooded with patients.

The virus has now infected nearly 10 million people and claimed over 140,000 lives, according to official counts.

India added lots of beds but simply didn't have enough critical care workers to cope with the rising tide of patients.

So, hospitals have trained practically any available specialist from plastic surgeons to ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctors to anesthetists to look after Covid-19 patients.

Doctors say any patient arriving in an emergency room in India with shortness of breath these days is immediately a Covid-19 suspect when the patient could be actually suffering from heart disease, dengue, scrub typhus, or even acid reflux.
