At least four people died on Sunday when they were hit by a train near Barcelona as they tried to cross railway tracks, emergency services said .
The state railway operator said that the accident occurred at 8:22 pm local time in Montmelo, near Barcelona, when seven people crossed the tracks in a prohibited location.
Three people were killed at the scene and a fourth person died in hospital after suffering a cardio-respiratory arrest, emergency services said on Sunday.
