Dr. Adel El-Adawy, former Minister of Health and Chairman of the High Committee for the African Medical Conference, stated that restructuring the medical sector in any country requires a great deal of effort, time, and resources. He explained that Egypt overcame the obstacle of Hepatitis C despite the high cost, as the country bore the full cost to eliminate the virus despite the difficult circumstances.
During a telephone interview on the program "El Hayah El Youm" on the Al Hayah channel with the media personality Mohamed Sherdy, he pointed out that the African continent faces suffering in the medical sector in various fields, including tuberculosis, malaria, and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Preventive plans have declined significantly, and there is an outbreak of diseases in many African countries, as well as a crisis of COVID-19 and a lack of fairness in the distribution of vaccines.
He also noted that Egypt is reclaiming its leadership by becoming a gateway to the African continent. He explained that for many years, Egypt left the arena in Africa to other countries such as India and China, and the drug supply for them covers the African continent. Egypt needs to return strongly, and we have the capabilities to bring things back to what they were and much better.
