Assistant Foreign Minister for Consular Affairs and Egyptian Expatriates Amr Mahmoud Abbas said on Tuesday that the Consulate General in Jeddah is closely following up an accident when a bus, carrying 16 Egyptians heading for Mecca to perform Umrah, overturned 310 km from Tabuk city, northwestern Saudi Arabia.
A number of people were killed and wounded in the accident.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the Egyptian consulate had contacts with the local authorities in Saudi Arabia to finalize procedures required to transport bodies of the dead Egyptians to the homeland.
"Contacts are underway with the injured to offer all support for them," the ministry added.
