FM Says Climate Issue Is 'Existential'

Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry said that Egypt believes that the climate change issue is 'existential', noting that an international consensus must be reached, in order to move from the stage of pledges to implementation.

In televised remarks, Shoukry added that Egypt's hosting of the COP 27 Climate Summit and its participation in previous summits comes within the framework of its interests and affiliations with the African Group, the Group of 77, as It mainly defends the interests of developing countries on the issue of climate change.

He added that the COP-27 summit has been called the "COP of implementation" since its beginning, to move from pledges to implemetationa and achieve the common goal on the issue of climate change.

Moreover, Egypt's top diplomat stressed that the whole world must deal with climate issues seriously.
