Foreign Minister (FM) Dr. Badr Abdel Atty received a phone call from Romanian Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu to congratulate him on his new position.
During the phone call, Abdel Atty expressed his sincere gratitude for the kind gesture from his Romanian counterpart.
He praised the level of joint coordination and mutual support between the two sides for various nominations in international organizations, as well as the growing volume of bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the field of bilateral trade, which exceeded $1.1 billion in 2023.
Moreover, FM pointed out that there are many untapped opportunities for cooperation that could enhance and expand cooperation between the two countries, especially in tourism, migrant labor, energy, and other areas.
He also mentioned the momentum generated by high-level bilateral visits, most recently the visit of former Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă to Egypt in February 2023, in addition to the invitation extended to the President of Egypt to visit Romania.
Furthermore, Abdel Atty emphasized the special importance Egypt attaches to coordination with Romania on issues of mutual interest at the regional and international levels, particularly in combating terrorism and irregular migration. He expressed great appreciation for Romania's role in supporting Egypt within the European Union.
He also stressed the need to continue holding regular political consultations between senior officials of the two countries, as this has a clear impact on enhancing cooperation, adding that He is looking forward to holding the fourth session of the Egyptian-Romanian Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation in Bucharest during the last quarter of this year.
