Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, expressed his hope that the upcoming negotiations in Islamabad between the United States and Iran will be fruitful and contribute to regional de-escalation.

This came during two separate phone calls between the Foreign Minister and both Antonio Tajani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, and Johann Wadephul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany.

The calls focused on exchanging views and assessments regarding regional developments following the announcement of a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran, and the scheduling of upcoming negotiations in Islamabad.

Moreover, Abdelatty briefed his German and Italian counterparts on Egypt’s intensive recent efforts to contain regional escalation in close coordination with regional partners.

He also emphasized the necessity of building upon the ceasefire announcement as a fundamental pillar to bolster efforts aimed at reducing tensions.

During the calls, FM stressed the priority of the diplomatic path and negotiations in addressing the current situation.

He further highlighted the importance of unifying regional and international efforts at this critical juncture to ensure a sustainable ceasefire and create an environment conducive to understandings between the U.S. and Iran that could lead to an end to the war.

The ministers also exchanged views on the grave developments in Lebanon amidst the brutal Israeli aggression targeting several areas.

Furthermore, Abdelatty renewed Egypt’s full condemnation of the Israeli aggression and the intimidation of civilians, asserting that it constitutes a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law.

He also emphasized that the aggression must stop immediately and called on the international community, including the European Union, to fulfill its responsibility by exerting pressure to halt Israeli attacks.

Furthermore, he reiterated Egypt’s absolute rejection of any infringement on Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, affirming Egypt’s full solidarity with the Lebanese people.

In this context, FMs welcomed the upcoming talks scheduled in Washington between the Lebanese and Israeli sides, emphasizing the importance of this step in opening a direct negotiation channel to stop Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

Abdelatty informed his counterparts of Egypt’s communications with the American and Lebanese sides in this regard.

He also welcomed the decision announced by Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, stating that the Lebanese Cabinet has decided to restrict the possession of weapons solely to the state’s legitimate forces.

The German and Italian FMs praised the constructive role Egypt has played recently in reducing regional escalation alongside its regional partners.

Moreover, the ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation in the coming period and to intensify efforts to lower tensions, underscoring that diplomatic solutions remain the optimal choice for supporting security and stability in the region.
