Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates’ Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met on Sunday with Jibril Rajoub, Secretary of the Central Committee of the Palestinian Fatah Movement, to discuss the latest developments in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to end the Israeli war on Gaza, as well as its ongoing efforts to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
He stressed Egypt’s firm rejection of Israel’s military operations in Gaza, the displacement plans targeting Palestinians, and the crimes of genocide, including the use of starvation as a weapon against the Palestinian people.
Moreover, underscored the importance of Israel’s acceptance of the ceasefire proposal put forward by mediators Egypt and Qatar, which is based on the initiative of the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East.
Furthermore, Abdelatty emphasized that this would pave the way for launching reconstruction efforts in Gaza, beginning with the international conference on early recovery and reconstruction scheduled to be held in Egypt in cooperation with the Palestinian Authority and the United Nations.
On the West Bank, Abdelatty condemned the Israeli settlement plan in the E1 area, along with other illegal practices such as land confiscation and the intimidation campaigns carried out by Israeli settlers against Palestinians.
The two sides also discussed ways to mobilize international support for the recognition of the State of Palestine, as well as the expected outcomes of the international conference on implementing the two-state solution, to be hosted in New York this month on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
