Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs, Dr Badr Abdel Aty, emphasized Egypt's rejection of any attempts to displace Palestinians from their land. His remarks came during a meeting with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, today.
Moreover, Abdel Aty reiterated Egypt's firm stance on this critical issue, aligning with Egypt's broader policy in advocating for Palestinian rights on the global stage.
The meeting also focused on strengthening the strategic relations between Egypt and Greece, highlighting the importance of continued coordination on mutual interests such as immigration and security.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister praised the progress in bilateral relations, noting the successful convening of the first "High-Level Cooperation Council" in Athens on May 7, 2025.
This meeting culminated in the signing of a joint declaration, elevating the Egypt-Greece partnership to a "strategic" level.
Abdel Aty also commended Greece's consistent support for Egypt within the European Union, underscoring the crucial role such diplomatic backing plays in advancing Egypt's interests on the European stage.
The Minister reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to protecting religious sites, especially the revered Saint Catherine's Monastery.
He emphasized the importance of preserving its sacred status and ensuring that no harm comes to the site or its affiliated areas due to their deep spiritual and religious significance.
In the same context, Egypt expressed interest in strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation with Greece, especially the electricity interconnection project between the two nations.
The two ministers also discussed expanding cooperation in the energy sector.
Furthermore, both ministers agreed on the importance of addressing global challenges such as irregular migration, with Egypt committed to tackling the root causes of illegal immigration.
Thereofre, Abdel Aty highlighted the efforts to facilitate the movement of seasonal Egyptian workers to Greece.
They also exchanged views on Libya and the Palestinian issue.
He also updated his Greek counterpart on the outcomes of the emergency Arab-Islamic summit held in Doha, calling for an immediate end of the Israeli military operations in Gaza, which have led to catastrophic humanitarian consequences for the population.
He also warned against the dangerous Israeli plans to forcibly displace Palestinians, stressing that such actions threaten regional stability and directly undermine regional security.
Finally, Abdel Aty urged the international community to continue pressuring Israel to cease its military actions, allowing for humanitarian aid to reach Gaza and to mitigate the escalating crisis in the region.
