Egypt’s Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry arrived earlier today Monday in Sudan's capital Khartoum, to hold bilateral talks with the Sudanese side, as part of efforts to promote the deep relations between the two countries.
Upon his arrival at Khartoum international airport, Shoukry was received by Sudanese Foreign Ministry Undersecretary Ambassador Omar Dahab, Chief of Protocol at the Foreign Ministry Ambassador Hadi Al-Numeiri, as well as Egyptian Ambassador to Sudan Hossam Issa, and members of the Egyptian diplomatic mission.
It is scheduled that, FM will hold a series of meetings with senior Sudanese officials including; the Chairman of the Sovereign Council Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, Prime Minister (PM) Abdullah Hamdouk and Foreign Minister Asmaa Abdallah.
The visit is of special importance since it comes at the start of a new phase of cooperation between the two countries to face challenges and coordinate stances on regional and international issues of mutual concern following the changes in Sudan, according to foreign ministry spokesman ambassador Bassam Hafez.
“The visit also comprises an opportunity to continue consultation and coordination between the two sides on international and regional issues of common interest,” Hafez added.
Shoukry is considered the first foreign official to land in Khartoum after the formation of the transitional government and the lift of the suspension of Sudan membership in the African Union.
Noteworthy, Sudan and Egypt have enjoyed long-standing historical ties.
